one year anniversary

Yesterday, August 25th, was Ly and my one year anniversary. I can't believe it has already been a year! We decided to go to a bed and breakfast in a little town in the Columbia Gorge called Hood River to celebrate.

We left on Saturday and stopped on the way at the Bonneville mineral hot springs to go swimming. That was so much fun. The hot springs have been made a part of a Resort, so it felt more like going swimming at a hotel pool and hot tub, but we enjoyed it anyways. After leaving the hot springs we were on our way to Hood River. The drive there was gorgeous through the gorge. We stopped in a little town called Cascade Locks for ice cream cones on the drive... best soft serve I've ever had.

The bed and breakfast we stayed at is called Villa Columbia, in the Hood River room. It is owned by a couple from Europe, and you can definitely tell. The room we stayed in felt very European. It was small, but very nice. The bathroom had a huge jetted tub and rain shower (water comes from a shower head out of the ceiling instead of the wall). We had a balcony with a great view of the gorge and the Columbia River. After we checked into our room, we played a game of Rummy and then got showered and ready for dinner. We walked around the streets until all the little shops closed and then we found a restaurant to eat at. We ate at a really nice restaurant in downtown Hood River called 3 Rivers Grill. The best part was the dessert. It was a layered chocolate cake with raspberry mousse in the middle and chocolate ganache on the outside. So yummy! After dinner we went back to our room and played a couple more games (I won them both!). It was a nice night.

Sunday morning we got up and ate a great breakfast and got ready to go. We spent the day doing the Hood River Fruit Loop. Between Hood River and Mt. Hood there are hundreds of orchards and vineyards. They have made a 35 mile loop through it all with fruit stands and wineries all along the way. We bought so much fruit! My favorite things we got are yellow tomatoes and the best apples I have ever tasted. They are called Ginger-Golden. At the top on the loop it was so amazing to be right there at the base of Mt. Hood. It is an impressive volcano to be so close to. The view was incredible! Mt. Hood on one side, the Columbia River and Mt. Adams on the other, and orchards for as far as you could see. We stopped and ate BBQ at one of the stands at the end of the loop and then headed back to Portland.

Yesterday, our actual anniversary, Ly took the day off work and we stayed in bed all day watching movies and old episodes of The Pretender. We made homemade pizza and ate cheesecake. We started a family diet last week and we definitely screwed it up this weekend, but it was worth it. We had so much fun! I love Lyle so much and I am excited for what we will do for our 2nd anniversary.
